BABY STEPS
BABY STEPS

Before I say anything else, let me tell ya about little Millie. My fourth grand daughter is about a week old now. She is a miracle. She and mother are doing just fine. I’d forgotten what a joy these little ones are. I can’t help but think about this scary world we live in today. What will it be like as she moves through her life and takes her place in the universe? I am drawn closer to God just thinking of these things. How can you not be? I have faith she will make it just fine. I hope her journey is safe and meaningful.
Speaking of the journey, my songwriter dream is coming along nicely. The website is up and running after a year of design and content development. I’ve played a few gigs, done some co-writing, been to Nashville several times now, recorded in the studio for the first time in my life, attended retreats, incorporated my publishing company and carefully studied the songwriting craft. It’s been a great first year.
Yeah, but did ya make any money? It is a business after all. The wife and Uncle Sam are going to expect you to turn a profit at some point. Well yes, as a matter of fact, I sold two song downloads for a total of 31 cents! Woohoo! Truth is, the website designer I’ve had helping me out, “bought” two tunes to test out the e-commerce function of the website. 31 cents showed up in my PayPal business account and I’m making money, baby!
Mimi and I were in bed ready to call it a day and I showed her the good news on my laptop. She was happy for me and got a good chuckle over my first “sale”. Before lights out, I checked email one last time. I clicked on something from the State of Georgia Department of Revenue. It was a $30 tax bill to cover my business license for this next year. So this is what it’s going to be like? We both laughed, turned out the lights and said goodnight. I dreamed of what year two as a songwriter might bring.
Baby steps, Millie. Baby steps for both of us.
